What is floating?
Floating offers a therapeutic treatment that removes environmental demands rather than manipulating them. Floating is also known as floatation therapy, restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST), and Epsom salt hydrotherapy. The tank is called a sensory deprivation chamber, float tank, or flotation tank. These are the most common terms and all refer to the same concept.
A floatation tank is a sensory deprivation tank with 10-inch deep water warmed to 95.7 degrees and enriched with 650 pounds of Epsom salt. The tank has an advanced filtration and purification system operated according to FDA regulations. You are unlikely to feel claustrophobic inside the tank as the door opens with a push of a button from inside. The enclosed space is approximately four feet by eight feet. The weightlessness, temperature of the water, and sensory deprivation allow the brain to go into a theta state, the 4 to 7 hertz frequencies the brain experiences before falling asleep. Theta offers access to unconscious material, reverie, free association, sudden insight, and creative inspiration. This normally occurs in the second half of an hour-long float session. If it is your first time floating, you should not expect instant results. The float tank provides a reliable means to achieve and sustain this beneficial state without the years of practice that is normally required for those achieving an at-will theta state through advanced meditation.
What are the effects and benefits of floating?
Floatation offers an environment where you can be free of the stressful external stimuli, which cause you to be in a state of chronic arousal, fatigue, stress, or tension. Floating releases endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers), greatly reduces pain, and replaces stress with a sense of wellbeing. Floating is very effective at lowering the stress hormone cortisol which causes stress and contributes to weight gain.

With earplugs in and, if you wish, the floatation tank’s interior lights off, the quiet and darkness allow the mind to drift into the deepest state of relaxation possible. What to expect during your session and after?
Floatation therapy is a very personal experience that has strong recuperative benefits for the mind and body. Just following a few simple guidelines will help you get the most out of every float. Our floatation tank is situated in a lockable private room equipped with a shower for your use before and after the float session. Remove your metal jewelry and contact lenses. After receiving a detailed explanation of the flotation tank operations, you will shower and enter the tank. Here you will be free from sound and light.
Be careful entering and exiting the tank, as it is extremely slippery inside—like oil! Keep the salt out of your eyes! If you get any salt water in your eyes, you will be uncomfortable for a few minutes. To avoid getting drips of salt water in your eyes, push your hair back on your forehead when you switch between lying down and sitting up. Also, keep your hands away from your eyes to avoid contact with the salt water. If you do happen to get salt in your eyes, we will have a bottle of fresh water within reach to rinse your eyes.
During the float you will experience absolute relaxation in a womb-like environment. Relaxing music will play while you ease into the first 10 minutes of the float session. It may take up to 15 minutes to enter the first stage of deep relaxation. The remaining 45 minutes will pass peacefully and effortlessly. The end of your float session is signaled by the reintroduction of music. When you emerge from the tank, you feel wonderfully refreshed. Your body will have salt water on it, and you will want to take a shower to rinse the salt from your skin and hair. After the float, most clients experience stronger smells, brighter colors, more enhanced flavors, and more conspicuous sounds. These effects can last up to two weeks after a session.
